I've recently been struck by the amount of time a person can waste putting things off.
Seriously.
If you have enough things in your life that you dread, it can start to feel like you're living in slow motion. The process of forcing yourself to do a bunch of undesirable things can be exhausting and time-consuming!
Here are a few ideas to help you rid your life of procrastination and all of its negative impacts on your time and energy:
1. Eliminate undesirable tasks as much as you can. This sounds like a "duh" but I'm amazed at how many people accept the status quo when it could be changed. In some cases you don't even need to eliminate the whole task -- maybe you could make it faster or easier with better tools or a new strategy.
2. Add some rewards. This is basic conditioning: Do something unpleasant and then get a break or eat something that tastes good or read your paper. Eventually your brain will expect a reward after the unpleasant experience, making it much less unpleasant.
3. Do it first thing. Why spend your whole day dreading something that will come at the very end of it?
Hope these help you let go of a few burdens!
